Tent, 11x15in watercolor

This scene was from a camping trip at Wilson State Park in central Kansas. I was drawn in by the late afternoon light coming in over the bluffs behind us and shining through our friend’s tent.

I actually got a critique on this one from a pro artist which was awesome. I had been pushing values hard and the critique was that I pushed the dark shadows a little too hard, which makes sense. That’s part of the danger of painting from reference photos – the camera compresses values and shifts them darker.
